Capital Stage Closes Season 7 with DYING CITY, Now thru 8/12

Capital-Stage-Closes-Season-with-DYING-CITY-718-812-20010101

Written to honor the walking wounded following the war brought on by 9/11, Christopher Shinn's Dying City makes its Sacramento premiere at Capital Stage under the direction of the company's Producing Director, JoNathan Williams and featuring the outstanding cast of Chad Deverman and Lyndsy Kail. The final production of Capital Stage's seventh season, and its first season in its new midtown location, opens tonight, July 21, 2012 with a limited four-week run closing on August 12, 2012.

A gripping, psychological drama, Dying City focuses on a confrontation between Kelly (Kail), a young therapist, and her late husband's identical twin brother, Peter. Set in New York City, within the confines of Kelly's living room, the play shifts back and forth in time as each brother enters and exits raising complex questions about a post-9/11 world. Deverman (reasons to be pretty) will play the twin brothers Craig and Peter. Dying City received its world premiere at The Royal Court Theatre in 2006 and was a Pulitzer Prize finalist in 2008.

The cast will feature popular bay area actors Chad Deverman and Lyndsy Kail. Capital Stage co-founder and producing director JoNathan Williams (Master Class, Dirty Story) will direct this Sacramento premiere. The design team includes Steve Decker(scenic), Rebecca Redmond (costumes), and Ron Madonia (lighting).

Christopher Shinn was born in Hartford, Connecticut, and lives in New York City. In addition to Dying City, other plays Shinn has written include Four, Other People, The Coming World, What Didn't Happen, On the Mountain, Where Do We Live, Now Or Later, and Picked. His plays have been produced at the Royal Court, Lincoln Center Theater, Manhattan Theatre Club, Vineyard Theatre, Playwrights Horizons, South Coast Rep, and the Soho Theatre, among others. His adaptation of Hedda Gabler for Roundabout premiered on Broadway in 2009. His plays are published in a collection from TCG, in the UK by A&C Black, and in acting editions from Dramatists Play Service and Playscripts. Shinn has received an Obie in Playwriting, and a Guggenheim Fellowship. He was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in Drama in 2008 and shortlisted for the Evening Standard Theatre Award for Best Play in 2009. He has received grants from the NEA/TCG Residency Program and the Peter S. Reed Foundation, and he is recipient of the Robert S. Chesley Award.

Performances for Dying City opens tonight, July 21 at 8pm. Performances continue for four-weeks through August 12, 2012. Showtimes will be Wednesdays at 7pm, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm, and Sundays at 2pm. Capital Stage is located at 2215 J Street, Sacramento, Calif.
