The Sacramento engagement of WICKED begins performances tonight, May 23 and runs through June 17 at Community Center Theater, 1301 L Street. The Sacramento engagement of WICKED features Nicole Parker as Elphaba, Alli Mauzey as Glinda, Liz McCartney as Madame Morrible, PJ Benjamin as The Wizard and Justin Brill as Boq.

Parker was last seen as Elphaba on Broadway. Mauzey starred as Glinda in both the Broadway and final San Francisco companies. McCartney’s Broadway credits include The Phantom Of The Opera, South Pacific, Mamma Mia!, Thoroughly Modern Millie. Benjamin comes to the WICKED tour directly from the Broadway company after playing The Wizard for 5 years. Brill has appeared on Broadway in Rent, All Shook Up and High Fidelity.

WICKED cast members with Sacramento area connections include Emily Ferranti (Nessarose), who attended Folsom High School and appeared in local Theater Productions; Courtney Iventosch (Witch’s Mother, Ensemble), who lived in Weimar, California; Napoleon Gladney (Ensemble), who attended Center High School and Junior High in Antelope, California, and trained at Sacramento Ballet; and Ashley Dawn Mortensen (Elphaba understudy/ensemble), who was with River City Theatre Company for a number of years.

WICKED, with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz (Godspell, Pippin, Disney’s Enchanted, Academy Award® winner for Pocahontas and The Prince of Egypt) and book by Winnie Holzman (“My So Called Life,” “Once And Again” and “thirtysomething”), is based on the 1995 best-selling novel by Gregory Maguire. The musical is directed by two-time Tony® Award winnerJoe Mantello (Take Me Out,Love! Valour! Compassion!, The Vagina Monologues) and features musical staging by Tony® Award winner Wayne Cilento (Aida, The Who’s Tommy, How To Succeed…). WICKED, the untold story of the witches of Oz, is produced by Marc Platt, Universal Pictures, The Araca Group, Jon B. Platt and David Stone.

Long before Dorothy drops in, two other girls meet in the land of Oz. One – born with emerald green skin – is smart, fiery and misunderstood. The other is beautiful, ambitious and very popular. WICKED tells the story of their remarkable odyssey, how these two unlikely friends grow to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good.

WICKED continues to thrill audiences around the world. There are currently seven productions of WICKED worldwide: New York; London; Japan; Holland; Australian/Asian Tour; and two concurrent North American National Tours.

Evening performances of WICKED are Tuesday through Saturday at 8 p.m.; there is also an evening performance on Sunday, May 27, at 7:30 p.m.; matinee performances are Thursday, Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m.
