BWW Reviews: Runaway's KISS ME KATE is Simply 'Wunderbar'

(5/13/2012) “Another op’nin, another show. Four weeks, you rehearse and rehearse. Three weeks, and it couldn’t be worse. One week, will it ever be right? Then out of the hat it’s that big first night.” Those opening lyrics to Cole Porter’s classic musical had double meaning at Friday night’s opening performance of Runaway Stage Productions’ “Kiss Me Kate.” Despite a few kinks in sets and sound, the talented cast had its energetic audience laughing, smiling and applauding from start to finish.

Berkeley Rep Adds DEAR ELIZABETH and FALLACI to Season

(5/1/2012) Today Tony Taccone, artistic director of Berkeley Repertory Theatre, revealed two new plays that he’s selected to complete the Tony Award-winning nonprofit’s 45th season. In keeping with its reputation for debuting smart and adventurous shows, the Theatre presents the world premiere of Fallaci, written by Lawrence Wright and directed by Gregory Mosher, and the West Coast premiere of Dear Elizabeth, the latest collaboration from Sarah Ruhl and Les Waters.

The television show’s casting director Robert Ulrich of Modesto, and his wife, actress Kim Johnston-Ulrich of Ripon, are to be honored in April at a “Hometown Heroes” event, a continuing series at the Gallo Center that salutes area residents who have achieved national success in their fields.
